How long do dunlop strings last

Over time, small kinks begin to form along the length of the strings. These dents are caused by contact with the fret wire, which itself is made of metal. They affect the tone and feel of the strings, and also increase the likelihood that the strings will break suddenly.

Acoustic guitars have four wound strings and two plain strings. Electric guitars, whose strings are lighter in diameter, usually have 3 wound and 3 plain. Over time the windings can become loose, making the string very unpredictable. When this happens on a steel string it will normally fall apart. On nylon strings, the winding may sometimes begin to pull off without breaking the core. Wiping down your strings top and bottom with a thin cloth can remove the corrosion-causing substances left on them after playing.

This can therefore prolong the life of the strings. Few guitar players do this regularly. Dave Sloven Welterweight Posts: Any strong opinions on these?

I'm thinking of switching to these on both of my electric guitars when I get them set up soon, partly because I can get them easily from my local shop and partly because I've heard they are good for switching between tunings. I'm thinking of using the 'Heavy' set on my Gibson SG tuning range E-C standard, D -D most likely and a 'Heaviest' set on my Epiphone Explorer tuning range D-B, maybe A at a stretch, D unlikely, more likely C -C range I will have to have the nut and bridge saddles set up for these but I am wondering if there are any strong opinions on these either way.

I also don't seem to play as often as some people and don't gig jamming with others but not the high-pressure sweaty thing so much so I won't be sweating all over these and dulling them in a week, but if that is a big issue it's worth mentioning.

I tend to play the SG more. Kiichi Welterweight Posts: I only know that I really dig heavy core strings. So far I got some from Newtone, but it really is too much of a hassle, although they are really really good. Heavy core strings just play into my liking as I love really high tension on the low strings a lot of my palm mutes and fast playing there while the top remains either 10 or 11 depending on the axe but I have it when the strings get too thick.

Seriously, a 70 string for a low b is just a little big. With heavy core I got the same results on a 64 which is much nicer. I really dig the feel and sound of heavy core so I really hope the dunlop ones are ones I like. I just restrung my reasonably new Mayones Regius 7 string, for the first time, with Dunlop Heavy Core strings.

No need to file the nut or anything, yet the lower strings feel far tighter. Haven't tried it amplified yet. I agree with the poster who commented that the worn out pick looks like a nice speed bevel to me.

Aren't you supposed to practice the way you perform Pete Townsend types notwithstanding? Last edited: Oct 10, Messages 44, The answer is years. I lose'em before I wear'em out. These don't have pointy tips to start with, and they're made with a speed bevel.

The main wear I see is the speed bevel, which I would characterize as break in since I like it Messages 7, It's all genre specific. I've moved to Tortex for electric and Gravity for acoustic. I'm looking for a duller attack. Messages 12, Film pics, or digital? Guitardave Silver Supporting Member. Messages 10, Thumpalumpacus Senior Member. Messages 8, I've got dozens of picks floating around here, and simply grab the nearest.

I've got no idea how long an individual pick might last, I only know when it doesn't cut the mustard for me. I don't know about GHS. Try it and see. Interesting, consensus among GHS being slinkier than D'addario seems to be split very evenly from past topics as well, can someone with a trem guitar do a test between them to settle it? Messages 6, Dunlops could be very elastic if pushed but in normal state they are stiffer than Slinkys that are slinky in most modes. Anyway, subjective. I would use D'Addarios for lower end tunings.

I would think the DR's are slinkier than EB's. Igotsoul4u Member. Last edited: Jun 13, Igotsoul4u said:. I never new that. I switched from Dr's to Dunlop three years ago. I guess I know why i like the dunlops so much.

They last long like DR but seem to be looser. Depending on what flavor of DR, dunlops feel looser to me. I would say dunlops are similar to d'addarios.
